From the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians to the Chinese and Japanese, the fan has long been held as a symbol of good luck and wealth. After 2020, I couldn’t imagine a better gift for a friend, relative or yourself.

This is a fitted, horseshoe shaped garment. The increases form a curve that will sit on your shoulders just like a cardigan would or fits well around the small part of your waist, expanding to fit you hips and butt. Unlike may shawls, this is not a one size fits all so you can choose the size that works best for your height, shape and style.

Skills needed to make this wrap/scarf-
-Basic ability to make chains, hdc, dc and treble stitches.
-The ability to follow written direction or the ability to read a chart.
-If you are a beginner to lacey stitches, this pattern is an excellent place to start.

This entire pattern has been charted out, so every unique row is completely rendered, the beginnings, middle and endings.

Hook: 4.0 mm

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. These sizes correspond to store clothing sizes ranging from Extra Small up to 5XL. The pattern has a chart will all the lengths, widths, and corresponding clothing sizes to help you decide which one to choose. I had one tester who was about 5”11 and she was able to pick the correct size for her height easily.

Yarn requirements: I choose to make this in Berroco Farro DK weight yarn. This is a fun tape yarn that cones in bright tonal colors and works up well on a 4.0 mm hook. It can be substituted with Rozzetti Lumen, which is also a tape yarn with the exact same gauge. Lang Yarns Gama is a good substitute, but the gauge of this tape yarn is slightly off and you may need to adjust with tension or hook size. Both yarns have a high cotton content with a bit of nylon for stretch and recovery.
You will need approximately 605 yards for the Small, 705 yards for the Medium, 805 yards for the Large and 905 yards for the Extra-Large version.

Note about yarn: If you are using this as a sarong, I strongly suggest a yarn that will “bounce back” after washing and drying. Acrylic yarns tend to stretch out and do not regain their shape they way yarns with natural fibers do. High acrylic contact yarns may result in a skirt that fits great with you first wear it, but over time gets longer and droops. If you have any questions about yarn, email me.
