This hat has a beautiful shell stitch “falling” from the crown. I make it in Caron Simply Soft because it is a thin yarn and the pattern works up thick but also because it is great for sensitive skin. I have only worked up the 2 sizes and changing the hook size is all I had to do to achieve the size change so going up another hook may make an adult large and a smaller hook would probably make a toddler/youth hat (I would also adjust to a thinner yarn for a smaller hat). about 3/4 of a skein of Caron Simply Soft Paints or Ombre is needed per hat and I use just one color per hat but I’m sure color combos could be done if they were changed out every 4 rows (# of rows in repeat).
I consider this to be an intermediate/advanced pattern because of the use of various spike stitches that have YouTube tutorial links in the download.
