Falling Leaves Hat
The Falling Leaves Hat grew out of a desire to see what would happen if I combined the lovely marled North Avenue yarn from Plied Yarns with my love of stranded colorwork. I grabbed two skeins at a trunk show, and this is what emerged.
Based on the “Alder” design from the brilliant Andera Rangle in the Alterknit Stich Dictionary, the hat is worked from the bottom up, in the round. It features corrugated ribbing, which is often found in Shetland colorwork. The decreases for the crown carry the pattern to the closing point. For me this pattern is a contemporary riff on an old tradition.
When choosing colors for this hat, I suggest picking colors with a lot of contrast to highlight the outlines of the leaves.
The pattern uses less than a full skein of each color.
