this design is more freeform-style, rather than the whole ‘hundreds of very different yarns and different motifs’ way of doing things that I often use

…but it is definitely a great way to start freeforming while using just a few basic stitch patterns, and it is a good pattern to try if you would like to experiment with combining knitting and crochet together.
