The inspiration for the Fallow Sock sock design came from wildflowers creeping into field edges and bursting out of the hedgerows in midsummer. I feel passionately about protecting pollinators and soil health, and I wanted this design to celebrate the wildness of drifting seedheads, allowing the earth to recover and rebuild itself.

It’s worked from the cuff down, featuring a modified dandelion stitch and small bobbles to create the seedhead shapes. There’s a slip-stitch heel and a simple toe.

  • Yarn: 80g of any 4ply sock yarn. I used my own naturally dyed 100% Corriedale Sock yarn
  • Needles and notions: 2.5mm circular needles (25cm long) - I have knitted it on mini circular needles, and finished the toes off with DPNs.
  • Sizes: 1 (64 stitch cast on) and 2 (72 stitch cast on).
