The Fall’s First Frost Shawl was inspired by the yarn it was designed in. The single ply fingering weight merino was dyed by Rachel Lundstrom of Six and Seven Fiber to pay homage to the warm hues of autumn and the changing of seasons. Knit top-down, the asymmetrical triangle transitions from garter stitch into simple lace that’s reminiscent of leaves falling from the trees. Short row shaping gives it visual interest whether you wear it draped over your shoulders or wrapped around your neck for warmth.

Size:
The finished shawl measures 60 inches (152 cm) along its longest edge, 48 inches (122 cm) along the opposing edge, and 41 inches (104 cm) along the bottom edge.

Gauge:
Worked flat over 4 inches (10 cm) after blocking

  • 24 stitches & 30 rows in garter stitch
  • 20 stitches & 28 rows in half lace stitch
  • 16 stitches & 30 rows in full lace stitch

Matching gauge is not essential to this project for fit purposes, but yarn usage will vary if your gauge is larger or smaller than written.

Materials:
290 yards (265 m) of Six and Seven Fiber “Barley” in Hearth for Colour A
390 yards (365 m) of Six and Seven Fiber “Barley” in Butternut for Colour B
