Fan Fare Hat
This quick hat is designed to be standard fare for sports fans of all stripes and uniforms.
Worked entirely in the round from the bottom up, a bit of stranded color work in your favorite team’s colors shows off your allegiance and keeps the knitting interesting. An optional pom pom in the contrasting color adds to the fun.
Note on Sizing: Due to the nature of stranded colorwork, this hat is not particularly stretchy. Choose a size that won’t require the colorwork to stretch much around the wearer’s head. For a bit more flexibility in sizing, you may wish to work either size in a slightly thicker yarn at a slightly wider gauge. As the pattern is written, size small will work well for older children and adults/teens with smallish heads, while size medium will fit most adult noggins.
Notes on Construction: The hat is constructed by casting on for the k2p2 ribbing and working in the round prior to the colorwork section. Some knitters may find it more comfortable to work the hat with the sts on a 16” long circular needle, or on 2 circular needles instead of double pointed needles. Whichever your preference, it is important to ensure that you keep the beginning of the round clearly marked throughout. It is very important that the gauge in stst remain constant throughout the hat—i.e. the colorwork section should not be tighter than the non-colorwork stst that follows it. Some knitters may find it helpful to actually go down a needle size for the non-colorwork stst section to keep it from becoming too large and flaring as the top of a chef’s hat.

1skein each of the Main Color (MC), Contrasting Color 1 (CC1), & Contrasting Color 2 (CC2) in Cascade 220 Superwash (220 yds/skein; MC/CC1/CC2 shown in Tangerine/Black/Aran), or
Approximately 98(110) yds of the MC, (40)45 yards of the CC1, & 13(15) yds of CC2 in a light worsted weight yarn. Optional pom pom in CC1 requires 12-15 yards of light worsted weight yarn.
