Fan Stitch Cloth and Scrubber
This crochet stitch pattern was being used in an 1890 dolls dress design, worked in the round. Though it doesn’t look quite as much like fans when worked back and forth in rows, it makes a very nice, textured cloth and works up very quickly.
As you begin with any even number of chain stitches, you can adjust the size for any weight of yarn and use the appropriate hook. I used worsted weight cotton for my 6” coaster/mug rug; and jute twine from the convenience store for the 5” vegetable scrubber. for both I used a 4.25mm hook.
I regularly use jute and hemp twine to knit or crochet small tough, rough scrubbers to use for cleaning potatoes, carrots, and other veggies. The scrubbers work really well. You can also use them as pot scrubbers.
