Fancy Garter Baby Cardigan
This is my first knitted cardigan pattern, so please be kind! I tried to make sure that all my row numbers and stitch counts were accurate, but if you find an error, please do let me know!
The pattern includes instructions for a garter-stitch baby cardi with ribbed edging, as well as the tartan variation as shown in my photo. If you want to do a single-color version, ignore the instructions for the tartan version.
The sleeves in my example photo are stockinette. That was a delightful “oops” that I found I liked. I included instructions in the pattern for continuing the garter stitch through the sleeves as well.
I had a hard time trying to effectively describe the weaving technique, so I included close-up photos of what I did.
This pattern is so versatile and can be made in so many different color combos! I will update with new photos to show more options once I’ve had a chance to make them :)
One last note on size… I made this to fit my 1-year-old. She can fit in size 12 months clothes, but she can also fit comfortably in some 18 months clothes. This cardi fits her perfectly. If you want to make a little smaller, you could likely use a lighter weight and smaller needles.
P.S. - Special thanks to Eleanor at Knit Nottingham for her guidance on the tartan stripes!
