This children’s sock design was created after spending many winters knitting socks for younger family members and friends. It uses a folded cuff similar to the cozy cuffs on the socks I wore growing up; a picot edge option is included for a feminine detail.

I got bored of knitting stockinette or ribbing on the legs and feet of socks. The left crossed cable stitch pattern is easy to memorize and makes each pair feel a little fancy.

I found that my speed of completing hand-knit socks slowed when I came to the heel. These socks use a Peasant heel, an easy Afterthought heel technique that doesn’t involve cutting into the sock.

Fancy Little Feet has sizes for newborns to children around 10 years old.

Construction

The socks are worked from the cuff down. Knitters can pick from 2 folded cuff options, a plain folded cuff or a picot folded cuff. After working the cuff, there is a simple, cabled stitch pattern for the leg, with charted and written instructions. Then, scrap yarn is knitted onto the heel stitches. The foot is worked with the cabled stitch pattern from the leg continuing along the instep (top of the foot) before decreasing for the toe. Finally, the scrap yarn is removed, and the heel is knit.
