Fancy rats
Whether you want to crochet a tribute to a beloved pet, or a creepy-cute Halloween prop, these realistic amigurumi rats would be just perfect! The pattern starts with instructions for a solid color rat with standard ears, followed by the modifications for dumbo and hooded rats. I also included a simpler design for the front legs, in case you find the original version fiddly.
You could use any yarn weight, as long as you choose a fitting hook, it will only influence the finished size. My example rats were made with DK yarn and 3mm hook, and they are about 15cm/6” long plus 12.5cm/5” tail.
The pattern is 7 pages long and it is written in English with US crochet terms. Stitches and techniques used:
starting with magic ring, chain, slip stitch, single crochet, single crochet increase, invisible decrease, half double crochet, double crochet
The realistic shaping needs a little attention, so I would classify this as an intermediate level amigurumi.
Finished items made from this pattern are yours to keep or gift away or sell, I only ask you to give me credit as designer in case you decide to sell them.
A version of this pattern, written with UK terms and containing only instructions for solid color and standard ears, appeared in the Amigurumi for Beginners magazine.
