A sock adapting fan and feather stitch patterns from an old Patons Woolcraft book that belonged to my grandmother. Designed for the Sock Knitters Anonymous October 2012 Self-Striping challenge.

Sized to fit approx ladies 7-8 size foot medium width. Finished sock measures approx 8.5” in length (before blocking), and 6” from top of heel to top of cuff. Gives a loose cuff and allows for a small amount of shrinkage when washed. See notes below for sizing and design modifications.

Yarn: 100g of any light fingering/4ply yarn, such as Zwerger Garn Opal, OnLine Supersocke or Moda Vera Noir with approx 420-460 yards per 100g. As written, pattern uses approx 80g. Self-striping yarns are ideal (but not essential).

Needles: 2mm DPN or Circular, or needles sized to get a gauge of approx 10 stitches/13 rows per inch in stocking stitch.

Modification notes include:
Alternate pattern variation 1 – no garter stitch ridges
Alternate pattern variation 2 - Less frequent garter stitch ridges
Size modifications for longer foot, longer leg and narrower leg.

This pattern is intended for personal, not-for-profit use only.
