This shawl is knit using mostly short rows technique.
It’s worked in horizontal rows, from the bottom of the triangle, and can be knit any size. The stitches for every consecutive row are picked up from below. The rows are knit continuously; there is no need to break yarn and change color for every element.
It’s very easy on hands, because you work on a small number of stitches.
You will need fingering, or sport-weight yarn in two colors.
The main color must be solid.
The contrasting color can by anything: speckled, gradient, or even selfstriping (I used WYS selfstriping sock yarn for the prototype). Whatever yarns you’re going to use for this shawl, make sure they are in very strong contrast to each other.
The exact amount of yarn depends on the size of your shawl. For the prototype 10 fans wide, I used about 130 g of fingering yarn total, almost in equal amounts.
You will also need short circulars (or DPNs) US size 5 or 6 for the shawl body, and long circulars for the trim only.
Gauge and size:
One motif is approx. 16cm wide and 11cm tall.
The prototype (10 motifs on top) is 160 cm wide
at the neck and drops 60cm.
