Farming is one of the most important professions in the world. Whatever they grow, be it plants or animals, farmers help to provide things that make our lives possible - essentials like food and clothing, but also fun things like the wool for this farmer toy!

This is a variation of the basic person pattern in the book Kath Dalmeny’s World of Knitted Toys, containing over 50 patterns - as shown below. The farmer pattern calls for

• 50 g DK in skin color
• 40 g DK in green (for overalls)
• 20 g DK in fawn (for shirt)
• 20 g DK in pale yellow (for hair)
• and scraps of DK in black, dark brown, white, bright yellow, and dark blue

The pattern also uses a pair of 10 mm (3/8 inch) safety eyes, but the eyes can also be worked as black yarn stitches.

To accompany the farmer, instructions for making knitted chicks are also provided in the book, as well as a range of other farm animals - chickens, pigs, a highland bull, farm cats and a mallard duck.
