Farmer Mouse in a Tractor
This pattern is for the tractor, the mouse, its shirt, dungarees, flat cap, boots, neckerchief, lunchbox & piece of cheese!
Please be aware that the tractor is large (measurements are given below) and so this is a fairly time-consuming project! The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Stylecraft Special Aran weight yarn for my project (equivalent to light worsted weight / weight 3) and my finished tractor measures approximately 34cm long, 24cm wide and 28cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your tractor and the mouse & the accessories to ensure that they will fit.
For the mouse and its clothing / accessories (pages 4 - 14), you will need the following colours:
- Main mouse colour - I used pale grey (approx. 23.5m).
- Nose / ears / feet / tail colour - I used pale pink (approx. 13m).
- Dungarees / flat cap colour - I used khaki green (approx. 16m).
- Neckerchief colour - I used red (approx. 4m).
- Shirt colour - I used dark blue (approx. 6.5m).
- Boots colour - I used dark brown (approx. 7.5m).
- Lunchbox colour - I used medium blue (approx. 11.5m).
- Cheese colour - I used yellow (approx. 2m).
For the tractor (pages 15 - 32), you will need the following colours:
- Main Tractor Colour - I used green (approx. 142m).
- Base / Cab Section Colour - I used dark grey (approx. 222m).
- Outer Tyre / Steering Wheel / Exhaust Colour - I used black (approx. 205m).
- Inner Wheel / Stripe Colour - I used yellow (approx. 44m).
- Tyre Tread Colour - I used brown (approx. 171m).
- Headlights Colour - I used cream (approx. 4.5m).
- Top Lights Colour - I used orange (approx. 3m).
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
- Some toy stuffing.
- Small amounts of black, red and orange yarn or thread for adding the details to the mouse’s face, the lunchbox and the tractor’s brake lights.
- 2 buttons for fastening the clothing. The ones I used were 15mm in diameter.
- ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used 3 sheets. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible.
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
