Our final stop on our Journey is the city of Faro.

Faro is the southern most city of Portugal as well as the capital of the District of Faro, located in the Algarve.
The Lagoon Rio Formosa was one of the main attractions in the Palaeolithic age, when people settled there. It was the most important commercial porto for agricultural products, minerals and fish. It was then known as Ossonoba.
Faro has been under the domain of the Romans, Byzantines, Visigoths and finally the Moors in 713. Proof of these settlements can still be seen in the towers of the city wall that were created by the Byzantines.
During the rule of the Moors, the name changed to Santa Maria Ibn Harun. Eventually in 1249 the Moorish rule of the area came to an end with the Portuguese King Afonso III finally defeating the Moors and expelling them from Portugal, and the name changed to Faro.
The cables in these socks, reflect the interlacing of the various cultures that structured Faro throughout its History.

Faro é a cidade mais a sul de Portugal, bem como a capital do Distrito de Faro, localizado no Algarve.
A Lagoa do Rio Formosa foi um dos principais atrativos do Paleolítico, quando as pessoas se estabeleceram ali. Era o porto comercial mais importante para produtos agrícolas, minerais e peixes. Era então conhecido como Ossonoba.
Faro esteve sob domínio dos romanos, bizantinos, visigodos e, finalmente, dos mouros em 713. A prova destas povoações ainda pode ser vista nas torres da muralha da cidade que foram criadas pelos bizantinos.
Durante o governo dos mouros, o nome mudou para Santa Maria Ibn Harun. Eventualmente, em 1249, o domínio mouro da área chegou ao fim quando o rei português Afonso III finalmente derrotou os mouros e expulsou-os de Portugal, e o nome mudou para Faro.
As tranças destas meias, refletem o entrelaçamento das várias culturas que estruturaram Faro ao longo da sua História.
