This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped and very deep shawl that is comprised of three different lace stitches (two of which are incorporated into the edging). The focal stitch of the shawl is a fun one to work, and not terribly difficult. The ornate lace edging stitch is added in the traditional Shetland manner, and gives a beautiful and graceful bottom to the shawl. Nor is it nearly as difficult as it looks.

The shawl measures 70 inches at the widest points across the top and is 30 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles. The shawl requires approximately 1400 yards of yarn making it both a large and warm shawl for yourself, or for a very special gift.

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The shawl was expertly test knitted by This pattern was expertly tested by Rebecca Wood. (rkwood16@gmail.com) gmail.com. The yarn used in the sample is Handmaiden’s Merino 2/6 yarn, in colorway, Charcoal and requires approximately 3 1/2 skeins to knit.
