Pattern for a crocheted hat and bag from Stitchcraft, February 1969. UK terminology.

“Helmet”: 2 1-oz balls of Patons 101 Courtelle Double Crepe in Orange Peel 5313 and 1 ball Strawberry 5290. Bag: same yarn, 5 balls 5313 and 2 balls 5290.

No. 8 (4 mm) and No. 10 (3.25 mm) crochet hooks. Additional materials: PIece of cardboard, 1/2 yd lining material for bag, 2 press snaps, 1 yd. petersham ribbon for backing bag strap.

Bag is approx. 7.5 x 7 inches and has two pockets. Hat fits an “average head.”

Tension 4.5 sts and 4 rows to an inch in half treble.

The hat is made in one piece and the circular ear pieces made as flat rounds and sewn on. The bag is made in one long rectangle, folded to make two pockets and a flap, then lined and another circle made to go on the flap. The cardboard goes in the bottom of the bag to give it shape.
