This design is a fingerless version of Fast Forward Beaded Mittens. It shares a lot of design elements and knitting techniques used in the mittens, such as short rows, intarsia and beading, but the fingerless version is slightly easier to make and requires less yarn and a smaller quantity of beads. What’s more, the mitts look beautiful on both sides and work equally well with or without beads.
Fasten your seatbelts, accelerate, and go on a Fast Forward knit!

CONSTRUCTION
The mitt is knitted sideways with two seams (grafts), one along the centre back and another along the inner thumb. You start knitting at the centre back, work half back, then beaded front, and then second half back. The thumb and gusset are incorporated into the body on the indicated rows of the back.

TECHNIQUES
➰ short rows
➰ intarsia
➰ knitting
➰ grafting with tabs

SIZES (S/M)
To fit hand circumferences
Size S 6.5-7.0 in (17-18 cm)
Size M 7.5-8.0 in (18-19 cm)

MITT MEASUREMENTS
Length from edge to edge 7.25-7.5in(18-19cm)
Circumference 6.5-7in (16.5-17.5cm)

The finished mitt circumference should have about
0.5in (1.5cm) negative ease.

GAUGE
Your gauge may slightly vary from the numbers given below, but the fabric should be fairly dense to prevent overstretching.

30 sts x 60 rows = 4in (10cm) in garter stitch

YARN
Fingering or sport weight yarn 190 yds (175m) / 50g in two colours. You will need approx 40g (C1), 15g (C2).
If your yarn yardage is larger than recommended, e.g. 218 yds (200m) /50g, go for a denser gauge and larger size.

BEADS
190(S)/ 210(M) seed beads in size 8, (3 mm outside diameter or 8 beads per inch).

TOOLS & NOTIONS
➰ pair US 0 / 2mm 32in / 80cm circular needles
➰ pair US 0 / 2mm DPN needles
➰ long beading needle & sewing thread
➰ beading mat (optional)
➰ blunt tapestry needle
➰ three stitch markers
➰ waste yarn in contrasting colour

WASTE YARN
Waste yarn is used for a few provisional rows at the beginning and end of your knitting. It is removed after grafting. To ease WY removal, the weight should be similar to your main yarn or thinner. A contrasting colour will help you when grafting.

PATTERN
➰ written and charted for two sizes
➰ tested and tech edited

VIDEOS
All techniques used in the pattern are demonstrated in video tutorials. Please watch the videos in full (particularly the Thumb and Gusset tutorial) before starting your first mitt. It is also a good idea to try out the colour blocking and beading techniques on a small swatch first.
