This pattern is a modification of Sarah Keen’s “Elephant” that I have redesigned to be knit in the round. It made seaming easier and the elephant turned out a little bit fatter since no stitches “disappear” when seaming.

  • The pattern is pretty straightforward but I have added notes and tips to help you along. The parts include the base, body, two ears, two forelegs, two hind legs, two tusks and a head. The original elephant has a tail which I have omitted but I include the instructions to make one if that is your preference.

  • All pieces are knit in the round except for the base which is knit flat and then seamed onto the body. Knit the parts in the order they appear to make the final assembly as easy as possible.

  • You can use whatever yarn you like and whatever size needles. Just make sure that the needles you use are one or two sizes smaller than the yarn gauge so that the stuffing doesn’t show through in the finished piece.

  • Yarn used in the pictures is Cookie by Järbo Garn in the colors 46208 for the body (color A) and 46205 for the tusks (Color B).

Good luck and happy knitting!
