Fatal frogs
Since I have a real liking for nature’s most peculiar, weird, mysterious or misunderstood underdogs I decided to design some of them for anyone who wants to get to know these natural weirdo’s a little better!
Frogs have always been speaking to the imagination, maybe because their very nature is the stuff of fairytales. So does some of the smallest frogs’ beautiful coloration belie their devastating deadliness. These fatal fellows’ ostentatious outfits come in all colors of the rainbow, and they really are dressed to kill!
There are three frogs included in this pattern: the golden dart frog, the strawberry dart frog, the green and black dart frog and directions for a lotus leaf and a little golden crown. Each frog is a small and easy, fun and fast project, to use up any scraps you have lying around.
These frogs were knitted in miniature on 1.25 mm double pointed needles and are 5 cm in size. They can also be knitted on thicker needles and in heavier yarn and will then turn out larger. The crocheting was done on a 1.25 mm hook.
The frogs are an easy knit, they are knitted in the round or flat. Some intarsia color work is required for the multi-colored frog and the eye sockets, fingers and toes are crocheted onto the frog. The limbs are shaped through i-cords, short rows and in- and decreases of stitches. Soft toy filling is used to fill the frogs and the eyes are done in strands of black yarn.
Enjoy conjuring up these fantastically fabulous frogs!
And may you all be living happily ever after! Viv
