Faux Paws Double Brim Beanie
The Faux Paws Beanie is a double brim beanie with open-work paw prints on the brim. This design has 2 different versions, a double brim (brim folded to the inside and knitted together, and a folded brim version with textured stitch on the body (under separate cover). Both are for an adult average head size. These instructions are for the double brim, bulky and worsted weight version.
Solid color or tonal yarns in 2 high contrast colors are suggested to see the open-work paw stitch. It is better to use a darker color as Color A and high contrast lighter color for Color B. Just be sure to have the brim colors very high contrast to each other. You may wish to add a third color in your striping designs, or change it up by doing no stripes or different striping designs. My bulky version has a simple spaced “heart” in the stripe and my worsted version has a multiple of 4 double-row diamond pattern in the stripe.
A note about yarn choice -
I found with the openwork design of the paw that plied yarn shows the paw design a bit better than the single ply yarns. Smoother yarns with less texture and halo would be best. Additionally, the holes will be much less visible if using variegated yarns. Yardage will vary with the contact design you do.
Yarn Suggestions: Amounts will vary depending the contrast design you do.
Worsted
2 (or more) colors, Color A - 55 yards, Color B - 80 yards. Some yarns, like Malabrigo, are more WPI (wraps per inch), which will change the number you may need to cast on. My sample is done in Cascade 220.
