Machine instructions are for a plain t-shirt type top with suggestions for adding stripes or working with a variegated yarn. The suggested yarn is a cotton mix - very soft, comfortable, light weight and suitable for any weather. You can substitute another cotton mix yarn using the gauge in the instructions but 100% cotton yarn is not recommended as it is usually too heavy and tends to shrink in unpredictable ways.
