ENGLISH NAME: Favorite beanie
Sizes: One size unisex / one size unisex long
Head circumference: Fits a head circumference of approx. 52-58 / 52-62
Gauge: 22 sts per 10 cm in rib (k1, p1)
Needles: 6 mm double-pointed needles + 40 cm circular needle or 80-120 cm circular needle for magic loop
Yarn and amount: 100 / 100 g Hip Wool or Filcolana Peruvian or 50 / 100 g Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino held together with 25 g hip Mohair or Filcolana Tilia or Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair or equivalent yarn.
The Favorite Beanie was created by chance, or more accurately, a mistake. In the typical Sofie style, I couldn’t be bothered to rip back, and chose to make the best out of the mistake I had made. What I didn’t guess was that this would end up being my absolute favorite beanie (or “hue” as we say in Finnmark). The Favorite Beanie is knitted from the top down in rib (k1, p1). The rib makes the beanie very elastic and ensures a good fit for people with a head circumference from 52 to 62 cm. The increases give the beanie a pretty detail. From there, the beanie is knitted in rib until the desired length is reached. Finally it is cast off using the Italian cast-off method. The beanie is folded up with a wide brim.
It is important that you keep to the given gauge for an optimal result. Note that the gauge is measured in rib (k1, p1). Because of the rib’s elasticity, a yarn is used which usually gives more sts per 10 cm in stockinette stitch (approx. 16 sts / 10 cm) than the gauge here.
Enjoy the knitting! Hugs from Sofie / @Strikkesoffe
