Feather & Fan Any-Yarn Shawl or Scarf/Shawlette
Suitable for any yarn, any gauge! Make in either a small scarf/shawlette size, or a full shawl size.
This long, narrow crescent shawl is worked from the bottom up, using only very simple stitches. The feather & fan lace edging is knit first, then the body is worked by short rows and finished with a garter stitch eyelet border. There are no wraps & turns to deal with, and the row-by-row decreases are what gradually give the shawl its crescent shape.
Sizes:
S (Scarf/Shawlette) – 55 – 60” (140 – 152.5cm) along lower edge
F (Full shawl) – 75 – 80” (190.5 – 203cm) along lower edge
Stitches Used:
knit (K), purl (P), slip-slip-knit (ssk), knit 2 together (K2tog), purl 2 together (P2tog), yarn over (YO), slipped sts
Materials:
- any weight yarn, about 230 – 240 yards if using Bulky yarn, and making size S
- about 525 – 550 yards if using Aran/Heavy Worsted weight yarn, and making size F
- size needles to match your yarn. I used size US 10.5 (6.50mm) needles to make my gauge for Bulky, size S
- calculator (or pencil & paper) for easy math
- stitch markers
NOTE: the “easy math” I refer to above is simple multiplication and division, to determine your pattern gauge number. However, there is also a provision where you can make your Gauge swatch according to instructions, measure it, then have me work out the number for you. We want everyone to succeed!
