Knitting enables anyone to create luxurious and functional accessories for everyday wear. Patterns do not need to be complex to produce beautiful results.

The feather and fan pattern is a simple lace pattern consisting of four rows which are repeated. It knits up quickly and is a great pattern for those of you who dislike purl stitches, or enjoy knitting in the round or are new to lace knitting.

It is the sort of stitch pattern that lends itself to many different applications. Growing up, I watched my mother knit many afghans using this pattern and worsted weight yarn. In lace weight yarn, it creates a a dainty confection that is light weight yet warm.

This simple pattern knit in fine yarn produces a luxurious accessory that makes a wonderful gift. As it only needs one skein (25g/200m), I encourage you to splurge on nice yarn (e.g. mohair and silk). The cowl can be worn with or without a brooch/pin (see pictures).
