Feather and Fan Scarf
The Feather and Fan stitch is a very common technique and a great way to start learning to knit lace. As with just about all lace techniques, the stitch creates a scalloped edge. This pattern tells you to knit the scarf in one piece and add fringe to camoflauge the fact that the two ends of the scarf are not the same. If you do not like fringe, or cannot handle that two ends looking different, consider knitting this scarf in two pieces and grafting them together with a three needle bind-off. You can also use the kitchener stitch, but my personal preference is the three needle bind off. It is much easier to do when handling lace stitches.
Additionally, this pattern can be worked in just about any weight yarn. Pick a needle size that is one or two sizes larger than the reccomended size for your yarn. If you prefer a much more open and airy scarf, go up even more in your needle size.
