Federdolde Shawl
Updated version available. The original instructions confused some people.
A thread for questions and support is here
Federdolde Shawl is a top down crescent shaped shawl adapted from the vintage doily pattern of
the same name by Herbert Niebling.
The shawl fans out beautifully from the neck edge using a modified version of the original design,
giving the motif more modern proportions.
Due to the complexity of the design this pattern is for experienced knitters only.
Finished size with suggested yarn and needles and moderate blocking is 176cm/69inches along
neckline 70cm/27.5inches deep. The size is not adaptable.
Materials
Yarn: lace weight yarn, circa 720m/787yards. Please choose a yarn that blocks well and keeps
the shape.
The green sample is made from DyeDianaDye FlaxenSilk{l} in color Granny Smith.
The gradient sample is made from Farbmasche Silk/Linen 800 colorway Copper.
Beads: beading is optional. As shown the shawl uses 927 beads (size 8/0 in the samples).
Needles/Gauge: 3 mm (US 2.5) or size to give you a fabric you like. Gauge is not critical, but
the shawl´s finished size and your yarn usage will vary according to your chosen yarn, needle size
and your tension.
Other notions:
• crochet hook or other gizmo to place beads
• crochet hook in the same size as your knitting needles for bind off
• tapestry needle to weave in ends
• optional: stitch markers
Pattern is tested and tech edited
