Felsic is a flat-knit ribbed beanie knit with an earflap effect! It’s closely related to Mafic, but the shaping and stitch-pattern combination gives it a very different look.

It requires minimal finishing and is knit without true seams. (There are faux seams on the reverse side, but nothing is sewn.)

The wrongside is also nice-looking, so this beanie can be approached as a reversible knit.

Samples are shown in Malabrigo Arroyo! I’ve also done this beanie in Malabrigo Washted, for a thicker fabric at about the same gauge—that’s the blue-green hat seen in the background.

Materials:

  • 105-130 yards or 1 skein of Malabrigo Arroyo or Washtd, any colorway (Arroyo Petrichor shown for main sample; baby hat is in Arroyo Archangel).
  • 1 16-24” circular needle in US6/4.0mm, or size needed for gauge, preferably with a flexible cable
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 30 rows in blocked stockinette measured over 4”/10cm, knit flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.
