Felted Convertible Mitts
Felted Convertible Mitts pull double duty as both full and fingerless mitts. These mitts are worked in the round using fingering weight, 100% wool, and are then shrunk in the washing machine to the correct size. These mitts are totally customizable to your unique shape. I’ve included detailed felting instructions and lots of finished and in-progress photos to help you along the way.
These are beginner appropriate and also make great gifts.
Skills Required
Cable cast-on, knit, purl, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, working in the round using double pointed needles or magic loop.
Materials
Suggested Yarn: 1 (1, 2, 2) 273 yds/50g balls Cascade 220 Fingering, 100% wool.
Yardage: 210 (250, 320, 420) yds/192 (229, 293, 384) m.
You can use any fingering weight 100% non-superwash wool that will shrink in the washing machine. I have had success with Harrisville Designs Shetland, Knit Picks Palette, and Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift as well.

Notes
Choose a size based on the palm circumference AFTER felting. These are intended to be worn with zero ease, but will be custom shaped to your measurements after felting.
You can easily add/subtract length in the cuff, and the palm by adding more rounds of st st, or working fewer rounds.
I’ve included photos of how I picked up sts for the mitt flap. It may seem like some extra steps, but I found that doing the way I’ve outlined creates the smoothest mitt front.
