This Felted Hat is a very beginner friendly project, worked in the round in stockinette stiches from the base to the crown. The hat has a rolled up edge and a hat band where you can ”go nuts” and add a pattern of your own choice. The negative ease needed on a hat is provided by the wet felting in a washing machine. Short-rows are used at the base of the hat in order to tilt the top of the hat backwards resulting in a shorter back than front to provide a better fit of a felted hat.

If you do not like the idea of shortrows in a hat, you can of course omit the shortrows and make a “usual” hat. And if you do not fancy felting, you can just leave it out - just choose a size smaller and knit your hat.

The hat is designed using the Sandnes Fritidsgarn and DROPS Nepal. The pattern is written in rounds as well as cm/inches so that you can substitute with your favorite yarn brand in your local area.

If you use DROPS yarn bases (or other brands) then follow the instructions in section 5: Felting. Please read section 6: Tips & Tricks before you start your hat project. Abbreviations are seen in section 7.
