Felted Potholders
Pattern description from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts: “These potholders make a thoughtful hostess or housewarming gift along with a gourmet food item. If you can, find out the color scheme of the recipient’s kitchen so you can pick your yarn accordingly.”
Finished Measurements: About 8” - 8.25” (20-20.5 cm) square, after washing and felting.
Yarn:
-
Baabajoes Woolpak Yarns NZ 14 Ply (100% wool; 310 yards [283 meters] / 250 grams): #20 birch (light gray), 1 skein. Later sold under the Merino Sheepskin Wool Pak label.
-
Manos del Uruguay (100% handspun kettle-dyed wool; 137 yards [125 meters] / 100 grams): #69 hibiscus, #20 Parma, #V cinnamon, and #49 henna, 1 skein each
-
Depending on your color combinations, these amounts will make 10-12 potholders. A single skeing of Woolpak NZ 14 ply will make 4 or 5 solid-color potholders, and a single skein of Manos Wool wil make about 2 solid-color potholders.
Needles: One set of straight needles size US 10.5 (6.5 mm). Change needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn needle, scissors, crochet hook size J/10 (6 mm) for edging (optional).
Note about Gauge: “Getting an exact gauge is not critical for this project, since it is felted & fit is not critical.”
