Dad and I used to build fence together – you stretch a line straight, space the posts evenly, and dig a deep hole for the corner posts; it’s a part of rural life when you have livestock. This slip, knit and purl stitch pattern recreates a fence’s regular rhythm. The mitten can be worked in many shades- creating stripes or just one - embracing the texture. The palm side of the hand is worked without the slipstitches. There are 4 sizes in worsted weight.

This mitten is knit in the round from the cuff to the fingertips. It begins with a twisted rib cuff. The thumb gusset shaping begins as the Fence Line and Ridge Line patterns are worked. After thumb gusset increase stitches are worked they are slipped to waste yarn while the hand is completed to the fingertips. The thumb is worked last.

Complete the set with the Fence Line Hat.
