Fenced In Socks
The Fenced In socks were designed with the intention of using up small amounts of yarn in a structured fashion. The sock is worked cuff down, with an eye of partridge heel flap and gusset, the toe is grafted with Kitchener stitch. The difficulty level is intermediate.
The pattern comes with two versions.
Version A features garter stitch stripes separating differing contrast colors. This version is ideal for using up lots of little scraps.
Sample A is the 64 stitch size using Moonglow Yarn Co light fingering sock set in the Haunted Rose Garden Colorway, knit to a 8.75” total foot length. It used 36g of MC, 6g each of CC1, CC2, and CC3, 4g each of CC4 and CC5. Gauge was 8 stitches/Inch
Version B is very similar, but is designed with only two colors in mind, and eliminates the garter stitch stripes.
Sample B is the 56 stitch size using Katia United Sock in the colorways 5 and 7, knit to a 8.75” total foot length. I used 34g of 5, and 18g of 7. I knit the smaller size because my gauge with this yarn was 7 stitches/Inch. These are shorties, so if you want a longer sock accommodate for more yardage.
50g of the MC (Cuff, Heel, Toe, and fence pattern), and 50g total of CC(s) should be plenty to knit you any of the sizes in the pattern.
The colorwork is accomplished through slip stitches, with only one color held at a time. Keeping the floats loose is crucial to getting a sock that fits over the foot. The colorwork results in a snug fitting leg.
