Fern Socks
These women’s socks are worked from the cuff/top down to the toe. They feature a short-row heel and two lace patterns on the leg mimicking fern fronds and curled fiddleheads. This pattern is also worked on the top of the foot, with a plain stockinette sole. They are available in 3 sizes.
You will need one 450-yard skein of a lighter weight fingering/sockweight yarn to knit this pattern as written, for all 3 sizes. Leg length and foot length may be customized but increasing these will likely result in the need for further yardage.
Ferns are some of the oldest plants on earth, and are found worldwide. Their easily recognizable early spring growth that unfurls in fiddlehead shapes in the forested undergrowth or shaded groves was used as an early season food source, especially rich in vitamin C. Spreading through the use of spores, ferns can carpet large sections of land where their graceful waving stems and lacy leaves welcome the beginning of the growing season.
This design is also available as part of the Ogham Collection as a kit from Wall of Yarn/The Yarn Guys.
