Ferru
The fingering weight version modifies the feather pattern of Buteo. It also features a garter stitch top border.
Pattern Notes
This shawl is worked from the bottom edge up. Decreases in the charts then short rows are worked to shape the shawl.
The feather motif is very heavily modified from Herbert Niebling’s Königskerze.
Finished Measurements
Depth (edge): 22in / 22.5cm (note: edge blocks out deeper than gauge suggests because of lace pattern)
Depth (center): 22.5in / 57cm
Outer edge: 84in / 213.5cm
Inner edge: 48in / 122cm
Yarn
Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Silk Single, 75% superwash merino / 15% cashmere / 10% silk (430 yds / 393m per 3.5oz / 100g), 2 skeins, shown in Terracotta. As knit, shawl uses 736 yds / 673m.
Needles
US5 / 3.75mm needles or size to obtain gauge for lace
US6 / 4mm needles or size to obtain gauge for garter stitch
Gauge
approx 15 sts and 25 rows = 4in / 10 cm in lace (blocked)
16 sts and 40 rows = 4in / 10cm in garter st (blocked)
Precise gauge is not necessary, but alterations in gauge will affect yarn requirements. Note that this shawl is blocked quite vigorously.
