Festive Stocking Ornament
Shape:
A little stocking ornament with garter stitch accents
Materials:
US size 1 (2.25mm) needles in preferred style for working in the round (or the size needed to obtain gauge) - If using a circular knitting needle, I recommend a minimum 32 inch/80 cm length needle
tapestry needle
Yarn:
10 grams (45 yards) of fingering weight yarn - The sample was knit in “Scorcher” (main colour) and “Legless Flamingos” (contrast colour) from Stranded Dyeworks on the Merino Nylon base (75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon, 100g, 464y)
Gauge:
32 stitches = 4 inches / 10 cm in stockinette stitch (unblocked)
Yardage Requirements:
You will need approximately 45 yards to make one stocking, with 25 yards in your main colour and 20 yards in your contrast colour. The sample was knit using 23 yards of the main colour and 19 yards of the contrast colour. Some testers used a plumper fingering weight yarn and only used approximately 35 yards. Please note, I have added 5% to account for a small variance in tension.
Measurements:
5 inches (measured diagonally) from the toe to the back of the cuff (excluding the hanging loop)
Skills Required/Stitches Used:
- magic loop
- knit cuff down
- icord
- backward loop cast on
- k2tog/p2tog/ssk
- slipped stitches
- kitchener stitch (basic instructions provided - written) - some testers found that having a previously established knowledge of how to complete the kitchener stitch was helpful
The pattern is written for knitting using the magic loop method and assumes that you have an understanding of this technique. Your stitches will be split evenly between the two needles of your circular knitting needle. If you are knitting using DPNs, I will not be covering this technique in this pattern.
