DK or Aran weight is good.
Worsted is OK, too. It will come out slightly baggier, but it looks just as nice.

Change the color according to the season or occasion.
Burgundy and white is great for Christmas! You can knit all the way with Burgundy without changing color. This way, you don’t have to worry about red wine dripping onto the cozy!
