Festoon Shawl
Festoon is a large, two-colour, heart shaped crescent shawl, with rows of popcorn stitches scattered throughout inspired by strings of twinkling lights on a dark night.
Note that this shawl is designed to be worn draped over the shoulders, not wrapped around the neck
Skills:
This is a fairly straightforward pattern for crocheters with some experience who can follow written patterns.
You will be working in rows with simple increases and intermittent colour changes, occasionally working in the front and back loops. The pattern uses extended single crochet and popcorn stitches (explanation and instructions given in pattern)
Size:
The finished shawl has a wingspan (length on the neck side) of 145cm/57in and is 30cm/12in deep at the deepest point.
Materials:
You will need a 4mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge) and approximately 240g or 960m/1056yds of 4 ply/fingering weight yarn. 200g in the main colour and about 40g in a contrast colour.
The item pictured was made with the following yarn;
Main Colour (MC): 2 x 100g skeins (800m/880yds) Travel Knitter Tatami 4ply, 50% Baby Camel, 50% silk, 100g = 400m (Shade; Fireflies).
Contrast Colour (CC): Approximately 35-40g (140-160m/154-176yds) Orchidean Luxury Yarns Mulberino 4 ply. 50% Mulberry Silk, 50% Superwash Merino, 100g = 400m/440yds. (Shade; Moonage Daydream).
