Fibonacci and Fan
Combine classic mathematical concepts (Fibonacci Sequence) with a classic knitting pattern (Feather and Fan) for a multi-color slightly asymmetrical crescent-shaped shawl with a flirty ripple edge.
Fibonacci and Fan calls for 2 colors of sock yarn: a solid or semi-solid and a coordinating variegated or handpainted colorway. For best results, there should be great contrast between the two and they should not have any overlapping colors. Approximately 250 yards is needed for each Color One and Color Two.
The prototype and test knit were worked using Thede and Heritage as the variegated and solid, respectively. Knitters may select which they want to use as Color One and Color Two.
Gauge: 25 sts and 35 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch (gauge is not critical, but will affect yardage needed)
Suggested needle: US 5 (3.75 mm), 32” long
Necessary notions: 6 stitch markers required, additional optional for marking pattern repeats; tapestry needle for weaving in ends; scissors
Techniques used: garter tab start, sliding/turning work, picot bind off
Stitches used: k, p, yo, m1r, m1l, k2tog, p2tog, m6
Techniques and stitches used are described in the pattern.
