Suitably stretchy cast-on of your choice
Knit Stitch

Skills that will be taught/explained in this pattern:

How to convert a standard pattern for right-to-left knitting
Skills I recommend you work on while you wait:
Flipping a knit/purl stitch without tinking or frogging
Reading simple charts (not mandatory, just recommended)
Switching between knit and purl with lightning speed
Memorizing the Fibonacci sequence up to 2 digits
Working with multiple colors of yarn, without cutting, in the round
Yes, this is the real gauge, not a joke. The fabric should be firm but not stiff at this gauge, sized so that the stretched fabric will not be excessively drafty. If you are substituting yarn, take into account that Therapi is a lofty/fluffy worsted- other worsted-weight or Aran yarns might be too heavy, DK might leave too large of gaps in the fabric- substitute carefully.
You will need the equivalent of two balls of Therapi, in two distinct colors. The colors will be in roughly equal proportions.
I do not know yet if you will need to unravel your swatch- I am trying for “no”.
There is no intarsia, as I think that is a bit too advanced of a technique for “advanced beginner”.
There will be a beading variation for the intrepid.
In response to complaints about the HA1 hat:
This hat will be a “watch cap” style, with a fold-up brim.
While there is a repeating pattern of rows, the length before decreases will be specified, rather than the number of rows.
