This frilly and fabulous fish is a great project for the beginner or early intermediate crocheter who wants to try experimenting with color and new stitch textures. Or anyone who wants a new fishy friend!

Fickle Fish is crocheted in the round, with his tail worked in rows. His flippers and back fin are worked in rows and sewed on.

This pattern uses single crochet, double crochet, shell stitch, and chaining. You will need about 50 yards of one solid color worsted yarn, and an additional 180 yards of a variegated or contrasting worsted yarn. You will also need buttons for the eyes, fiberfill, and a tapestry needle. Use a crochet hook that creates a firm fabric without holes. I used an F (3.75mm) hook.
