Fierce, Freckled Friend
Bold and brave. A loyal friend who’s irrepressibly funny and straightforward. That’s Pippi.
These toe-up knee socks, created by Megan Williams of the Stockinette Zombies for Little Skein’s Bold and Brave kit, are inspired by the fiercest and most freckled of friends, Pippi Longstocking. Whether you’re a natural rule-follower like Annika, or more like Pippi who makes her own rules in life, these beautiful socks are a reminder to add a little more “Pippi” to your every day.
The pattern has six sizes, from child to adult extra large, and instructions for traditional mid-calf socks, as well as for knee socks, so that intrepid knitters can keep on going for two full skeins!
The pattern features a fierce braid motif inspired by Pippi’s fabulous hair, traveling up the foot. But, just like the strongest girl in the world, appearances can be deceiving. These braids aren’t cables, but a simple four round repeat. A fabulous freckled gusset leads to the toe-up heel flap, and fun calf shaping is built into the back of the leg.
To knit these socks, you’ll need to:
- Be familiar with basic sock knitting or be an adventurous beginner
- Be able to knit, purl, slip stitches, and increase and decrease stitches
- Be able to follow instructions for German short rows
