Fiesta Gitana
Bring some Mediterranean sunshine into your life with this colourful design. Nineteen motifs will make a rectangular or round shape. Originally inspired by vividly patterned Spanish tiles but equally effective in a single colour, the textured hexagons are fun to make and can be sewn or crocheted together - if you’re not a fan of those wavy, uneven edges on hexagon throws you’ll appreciate the innovative infill technique, worked continuously around the edge so you don’t have to keep cutting the yarn. This provides a straightforward base for the matching border, also included in the pattern.
The multicoloured tile version uses 12 x 100g balls of Paintbox Simply DK: 2 in white and 1 in each of 9 different colours (fully specified in the text), plus 1 extra in blue for the infill. A rough template is included to help you plan your colour palette.
In complete contrast, imagine a table cover made in one subtle shade of a fine, silky thread. Or perhaps a floor rug in chunky cotton or T-shirt yarn…
All quantities and measurements given are approximate and any variation in yarn, tension, colour placement etc.will affect the size and amounts needed. As a guide, one 13-round motif worked in DK yarn with a 4.00 mm hook will measure about 8.5” across from point to point and 7.75” side to side, and will use about 85 yards of yarn excluding waste. The finished throw including join and border as shown weighs around 700g.
There are two files to download: a 17-page main pattern with step-by-step photographic illustrations and explanations of any tricky parts, plus a 2-page Appendix giving layout tips for using your own choice of continuous join. In the main pattern there are separate instructions for the multicoloured and monochrome versions of the hexagon motif. This design is suitable for intermediate crocheters - some experience (and careful attention to detail!) is necessary, but help is always available via email or Ravelry message.
¡Viva la Fiesta!
