Do you have the urge to eat tiny cakes, sip Earl Grey, and unleash whimsical chaos unto the world? Then, might I entice you, glorious knitter, to make a pair of mitts that would do Ember, god of Fillory, proud. While these mitts may not be as intricate as filigree, if you become drunk enough, it will become Fillory.

Inspired by the book trilogy and television show, The Magicians,the Fillorian Crest mitts are worked in the round with stranded knitting, using either long circular needles to work in Magic Loop or DPNs. This pattern is recommended for knitters who have experience with stranded colorwork, knitting in the round, and reading charts.

Yarn
Three skeins of Lattes & Llamas Interlude Yarn (100 grams/ 438 yards) or a comparable fingering weight yarn in three contrasting colorways.

Sample is shown in ‘Dammit Wesley’ as Color A, ‘Palpatine’ as Color B, and ‘Mrs. Hudson’ as Color C.

Color A: 26 grams/ 114 yards
Color B: 6 grams/ 27 yards
Color C: 24 grams/ 106 yards

When choosing your yarn, make sure that Colors A and B contrast strongly with Color C. I recommend taking a photograph of the yarns together, and then changing it into black and white to see if the colors contrast strongly enough.

Needles
US1 / 2.25 mm to work in Magic Loop or size needed to obtain gauge.

I prefer the Magic Loop method when knitting mitts. If you are more comfortable using DPNs or two circulars, this pattern is easily converted.

Gauge
32 sts and 38 rnds = 4” in stranded colorwork, knit in the round and blocked.

Adjusting the gauge listed above or the pattern will alter the size of your mitts and change the yardage requirements.

Finished Size
One Size: 8.5 inches long and 8 inches in circumference after blocking.

Instructions are included to modify the size of your mitts by going up or down a needle size.
