Finnegan Hat
Using just one skein of bulky-weight yarn (plus a little more for a pom-pom), the Finnegan Hat is a quick and easy complement to the Finnegan Scarf. In luxurious SNUG yarn from The Plucky Knitter, it makes a decadent head cover for winter’s coldest months!
To purchase the scarf/hat combo, please see the Finnegan Hat & Scarf pattern.
Pattern contains charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
The Plucky Knitter SNUG — 70% merino / 20% cashmere / 10% alpaca — 110 yds (101 m) per approximately 112 g. Shown in colorway Rachel and size L, hat takes one skein.
Per size — S/M: 95 yds (87 m) / L: 100 yds (91 m). Pom-pom takes an additional 20 yds (18 m) or more in contrast color.
Sizing (unstretched):
S/M: 15.5” (39 cm) around and 9” (23 cm) high, to fit head sizes 20-21.5” (51-55 cm)
L: 16.5” (42 cm) around and 9” (23 cm) high, to fit head sizes 21.5-23” (55-58 cm).
NOTE: Plucky SNUG is a full-bodied bulky yarn. Ribbed hat is VERY stretchy, but if in doubt (or if using a slightly smaller yarn), choose the larger size.
Gauge (unstretched):
16 sts and 20 sts over 4” (10 cm) in 2x2 ribbing, blocked.
NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, use needle size that gives gauge.*
Needles:
Size US 9 (5.5 mm) needles, 16” circular for body and double-pointed needles (DPNs) for crown.
Other Materials:
Cable needle, tapestry needle, pom-pom maker and shankless button (optional), stitch marker.
