Fir Rib Hat
Combine one strand of aran weight wool together with one strand of lace weight mohair silk to knit this textured hat. The pattern begins at the brim with 3x2 ribbing. Then, the ribbing flows into textured columns of dip stitches, cables, and twisted stitches. The Fir Rib hat is a super quick gift knitting project or make it as a cozy treat for yourself. I used Life in the Long Grass Aran combined with a coordinating color of West Wool Glowhair. The fluffy mohair adds a halo, making the textured stitches shine.
Size
One size
Different sizes can be achieved by slightly altering the needle size and gauge.
Finished Measurements
21″ / 53cm head circumference, 10″ / 25cm tall from CO edge to top of hat. Measurements taken after blocking. The height of the hat is customizable.
The hat is shown on a 22.5″ / 57cm head circumference. I recommend achieving a finished hat circumference that is 1 or 2 inches (2.5 – 5cm) smaller than your actual head circumference.
The recommended gauge (15 sts = 4″ / 10cm in 3x2 ribbing) will result in a hat circumference of 21″ / 53cm. If you adjust the gauge slightly with your chosen needle size, then you can achieve these hat circumferences below. Each stitch gauge represents 4″ / 10cm in 3x2 ribbing.
14 sts = 23″ / 58cm
16 sts = 20″ / 51cm
17 sts = 19″ / 48cm
18 sts = 18″ / 46cm
