Fir Tree Cowl
Fir Tree cowl is a lined cowl that measures 26 inches around and 9 inches high. It is a comfortable and warm fit. I chose a bright color for the liner which looks quite pretty when worn as it flops open a bit showing the pop of contrasting color. I also chose to do a Latvian braid for the top edge of the cowl which gives it nice finish.
Materials:
5 balls Dale Baby Ull (fingering weight yarn) 2 each of MC and LC and 1 of CC.
This yardage used is approximate as I did not use all of the second balls of yarn.
2.4 oz/247 yds of MC
2.8 oz/288 yds of LC
1.25 oz/130 yds of CC (fir trees)
Size US 3 and US 1 24 inch circular needles. One additional needle in size US 1 or US 2 for knitting the liner and main pieces together.
The needle sizes recommended for this cowl knitted in fingering weight yarn are US3 and US1 24 inch circular needles Stranded knitting tends to be tighter than straight knitting therefore I chose to knit the liner in a smaller needle.
A provisional cast on could be used rather than casting on stitches with the main color yarn. It would prevent having to pick up stitches from the cast on edge for the I-cord bind off.
