Treat yourself or someone special to a pair of these elegant fingerless mitts with two subtle, textured twigs on the back of the hand! The pattern includes instructions and separate charts for five sizes to fit a variety of hands from child (5-6 years) to large adult.

It started with the intention to design a feather motif … and then I ended up with a fir twig, which looked far too pretty not to be incorporated into a pair of mitts! Be warned: you will work from charts with special symbols, which will keep you on your toes for 10-12 sts on every round (the rest is mainly stocking stitch), and only a solid-colour yarn with very good stitch definition will show the pattern well. But I’d definitely encourage you to try it, because it’s so satisfying to watch those little branches grow!

Skills required
Knitting and purling in the round over a small circumference, increasing and decreasing, putting sts on hold and picking up sts.
The twigs are worked with twisted right- and left-leaning
decreases, reverse yarn overs, and twisted mini-cables over two stitches. A photo tutorial is provided for all of these special sts.
Due to the asymmetric nature of the motif, each row of the panel is different, and the chart needs to be followed stitch by stitch (similar to a colourwork chart) to avoid mistakes.

Yarn and Notions
Choose fingering- or light sport-weight yarn in a solid colour, approximately 98 (118,150, 172, 202) m or 107 (129, 164, 188, 221) yards.
In addition, you will need stitch markers, a length of scrap yarn and a darning needle.
