Nature is full of inspiration. Fire and ice are a well known pair of natural phenomena.
On the one hand, fire and ice have something in common – they are both mystical, can’t be really kept, and change their appearance due to natural circumstances. When you look at them more closely, you may notice various colors in each of them.
On the other hand, fire and ice are contrary – one is very hot, one is very cold. This brings us to the point, that you can see different kinds of color families in each of them.

So I decided to tame the energy of fire and ice and to transfer it into a graphic shawl design. The result is one design with two different color options: I used warm colors for one of them and cold colors for the other.
So it’s up to you to choose, or to make both.

This pattern formerly has been exclusively designed for the FRIDA FUCHS Advent calendar 2019.

FRIDA FUCHS Mini Füchse Single, 100% wool, 80 yd / 73 m per 20 g or
FRIDA FUCHS Mini Füchse Sock, 75% wool, 25% Nylon, 93 yd / 85 m per 20 g
warm version colors in brackets
12 skeins Mönchspfeffer (Sesam) for MC
2 skeins for each Ägäis (Katusfeige) for CC1, Polarlicht (Markesh) for CC3, Lagune (Antilope) for CC4; 3 skeins Mitternacht (Cabernet) for CC2.

Everybody knits differently, so given yardage is an estimate.

GAUGE
24 sts x 32 rows per 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch with US 4 / 3.50 mm needle after washing and blocking

It is important to get gauge for this pattern, so please adjust needle size to get gauge if necessary.

NEEDLES
US 4 / 3.50 mm circular needle, 59” / 150 cm long or needle size to get gauge.

NOTIONS
2 stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, waste yarn for provisional CO

REQUIRED TECHNIQUES
Provisional CO with waste yarn;
knit and purl stitches, sl3wyif;
decreases: k2tog, p2tog; ssk, ssp;
increases: M1L, M1Lp, RLI, RLIp;
German short rows, picking up stitches from an I-Cord,
3-st I-Cord BO, Kitchener stitch.
